OOC: Castiel: an intro post
Jul. 8th, 2009 07:21 pmHi! Meet Castiel. He's an angel of the Lord. No, really, he is. He is. He told us so and everything! (Plus, he so totally has wings, and that proves it, right?)
Castiel is coming to Fandom post-season-four of Supernatural, which, well, either you know what that means or you don't. I don't wanna spoil it for anyone. What it means is that Castiel will know more about certain aspects of Supernatural canon than some of the other SPN characters do (not that he'll tell them that or let them know other than generally reacting initially to their presence) and that he'll be showing up from some rather trying circumstances and be entirely confused for at least a little while.
Again, not that he's all that likely to show it. Castiel practically defines stoic.
It should be noted that Castiel himself is a being made up entirely of bright light. His true form and true voice are painful at best and utterly destructive at worse to most of humanity (we're talking eyes burned out of your head, glass smashing, ears bleeding, loads of fun stuff), so he's possessing a man named Jimmy Novak. Jimmy asked for this. Twice. The second time he even knew what he was getting into.
Also, Castiel never changes clothes. But don't worry, he's not stinky.
He'll eventually take over Our Lady of Fandom, provide weekly Christian oriented (with a Supernatural slant) sermons, and be "on call" 24/7 for those in need of advice or guidance. It should be noted that Castiel is an angel in the Old Testament kind of sense, in that he's primarily a soldier. His advice and guidance might amount to "be good or God will smite you." But he means well. I, OOCly, cannot be on call 24/7, but if you give me fair warning, I can do my best to make sure Castiel's there for your character.
Unless asked, Castiel will not get involved in your plot or your character's business. It's in his nature to be very hands-off with things unless it's dire circumstances. And odds are, his definition of dire circumstances are not the same as your character's. Before last September, dude was last on Earth 2,000 years ago. Life and death is not dire enough for this guy. Unless asked (and possibly persuaded) by someone directly or ordered into your character's business from on high (a very unlikely circumstance), he will not get involved.
That said, when he does get involved, here's a helpful list of his varied powers and limitations. He will never use any of those abilities on any character directly or indirectly without OOC permission.
Castiel's an angel. He's very focused on God (of the Christian variety) and religion and things. He's not a preacher and he will not try to convert your character, just inform them matter-of-factly what he is and whom he prefers to obey. That being said, religion is very likely to come up in a conversation with him. If you want an interaction with Castiel but aren't interested in religious discussion/themes, please let me know. I'm not looking to step on any toes or upset people. A simple OOC note's all I need to know to steer properly clear.
He'll learn the art of casual conversation eventually, I'm sure.
A word or two on the mun: I was raised Irish Catholic, and most of my religious education is in that. I myself am almost entirely apathetic towards religion as anything other than a fascinating part of culture and source of archetypical symbology and characters. I have a lot of respect for religion, but I'm not a part of it. Castiel's views on God, religion, etc are not my views. And it's entirely possible that holes in his canon might get filled in with bits and details from cultures, religions, and histories from all over the globe. That's just kind of how I roll.
In non-religion based news, I'm on the East Coast, mostly available during the week from work, and like to think I'm pretty easy going. Hiya!
Questions? Comments? Votes on what crazy Misha picture to use as an OOC icon? Directions to Misha-n shirtlessness?
