The graveyard, Friday evening while walking a cat

Shelley called him back! He must be doing something right, right?

Was now when he told her he was an angel? He really wasn't clear on all that, but he wasn't very good at lying. Well, better not, just to be sure.

He called her back with what he hoped was an appropriate response, then looked down at where Angelbane seemed to be staring at him in perplexity.

"There really aren't any nuns," he told her. "You would have seen them."

Angelbane went back to trying to eat his shoe.

Angelbane perked up from where she was gnawing on Castiel's shoe and sniffed at the air. She started to meow excitedly and pace in a circle, tail whipping about in a fury.

Castiel frowned, then looked around. "What is it?" he asked. "Is something the matter? Has Timmy fallen down the well again?"

Hunter's ear pricked forward and he mewed back as he stepped closer, tail held high.

Angelbane ran in circles a few more times, then looked up at Castiel as though asking for permission. Or possibly going "OMG GO AWAY OLD DUDE."

Castiel didn't really get either interpretation. He tilted his head and stared back. Angelbane gave up on him and bounced up on a tombstone to look around.

Hunter stalked out of the shadows, paused to look up at the bird-human, tail twitching at the sight of wings.

Ah. Another cat. Castiel tilted his head the other way, wings twitching. Angelbane trotted in place on the tombstone and meowed again, as if to say "DUDE I KNOW I HAVE THE BEST PERSON EVER."

Hunter glanced back and forth between the bird-human and the beautiful cat. He mewed laconically eventually. "The wings are very nice."

Angelbane hopped down from the tombstone, tail still high in the air. "I haven't caught them yet." Her tail twitched in a kitty-shrug. "SOMEDAY."

Castiel looked from one cat to the other. "Are you planning something?"

"I once caught a bug that was bigger than you," Hunter said proudly. "It made a lovely squishing sound."

Angelbane was suitably impressed and came closer for a better look at the new cat. He was clearly a cat to be reckoned with.

"OMG THAT'S A BIG BUG. I once ate a biiiiiiig fish." Swish swish swish went the tail. She didn't mention that the bird-man fed it to her.

"Fish is always excellent to eat," Hunter agreed. "Does your bird-human know about the fish that comes with a metal skin?"

"THE SMOOSHY FOOD YES." Angelbane looked quite proud of this. "He figured that out eventually. He's kinda slow BUT HE'S CUTE."

"And he has wings." Hunter looked up at them again, tail twitching. "They're very big."

"AND HE'S A VERY GOOD DOOR OPENER." This was an important fact. She peered up at Castiel, then at Hunter. "Do you want to chase them some time?"

"Very much," Hunter said, staring at the wings very intently.

Angelbane crouched down and waved her tail, giving permission. "MAYBE YOU CAN CATCH THEM. I haven't yet BUT SOMEDAY."

Castiel seemed to catch on that something was off. "You are plotting something."

Hunter gave the bird-human his most innocent look.

Angelbane didn't bother with innocent any more. She sat down and smirked.

Castiel backed up a step. His wings twitched nervously.

Hunter's tail twitched in response. He crouched low, eyes never leaving his target.

Castiel stepped back another step. He wasn't actually afraid of the cats, but it was bothersome to have them constantly going at his wings. And he didn't want to hurt them.

". . . Should I leave you two alone, then?"

"Better do it fast," Angelbane noted. "He looks like he might run and he's very quick."

Hunter nodded, wriggled once for good measure and then launched himself through the air at the wings and the bird-human. He figured if he couldn't get the wings, then maybe he could at least get the coat.

Castiel realized there was no avoiding this fate. He sighed and held still for the cat to get its fill.

Angelbane tilted her head and watched, tail swishing.

"EXCELLENT FORM the coat tastes okay, too BUT THE SHOES ARE BETTER."

Hunter dug his claws into the coat and began to climb.

Okay, so this was new for Castiel.

Angelbane bounced on the ground, cheering Hunter on. Castiel wondered if he should be doing something. He raised a hand, wondering if the new cat wanted to be petted.

If there was one thing that Hunter enjoyed as much as pouncing and climbing, it was being petted. He stopped climbing long enough to receive his proper attentions.

Castiel had been painstakingly taught the proper ways to pet a cat by Angelbane over the past few months. He petted with great distinction.

Angelbane purred, pleased to see the handsome new cat and her person getting along.

"He pets very well," Hunter observed as he turned his head to rub it against the bird-human's fingers.

"I've been training him HE'D BETTER PET WELL." Angelbane sat up to take a swipe at an errant twitch of Castiel's wing. "Do you have a trained person?"

"Yes," Hunter said. "Though he has Gone Away Hunting and so I stay with his family."

"HE LEFT?" That seemed . . . irresponsible. Still, hunting was very important. "Does he bring you back good food?"

"He does," Hunter confirmed, purring a little and kneading his front claws on the bird-human's coat. "And catnip. Have you ever tried it?"

"I HAVE it makes my head all swimmy. GOOD STUFF!" Angelbane tucked in to gnaw on Castiel's shoe again. "Maybe I will meet your person sometime."

"You would like him," Hunter said. "He knows how to treat a cat."

Angelbane looked up at Castiel. "Mine's still learning." She looked back at Hunter. "We should go hunting sometime! This stony place is good for that."

"I would like that," Hunter said. He jumped down to land lightly beside Angelbane. "Very much."

Angelbane's tail curled in a kitty-smile and she leaned over to rub her head on Hunter's shoulder.

"Me too."

Castiel looked between the two. "I think, perhaps, it's time I left you two be."

Hunter turned so he could lick Angelbane's ear. "You have a beautiful tail."

Angelbane tilted her head and purred like a motorboat. "Your furr is soooooft."

"Yes," said Castiel. "Let me know when you want to come in."

And he vanished, leaving the two cats to their courtship.
