". . . really, it's the least you'll have to worry about once the kittens are born," Castiel was telling Angelbane. She'd started shuffling slowly after him everywhere he went, mewing at him. He was following all the rules for pregnant cat care he'd found online -- he wasn't sure what she wanted from him.

Other than possibly to eat his wings.

"No, he's hunting with his . . . Alec." Castiel watched him with Angelbane for a moment. "I take it Angelbane isn't present when you're from?"

"It's a slightly different reality," Cas said, pronouncing the big words slowly but correctly. "He and Uncle Sam never came to Fandom. And if you did, you've never told me."

"That is unfortunate. This island seems to have been good to Sam and Dean."

"And you?" Cas wondered.

"It is . . . not disagreeable." It was no Heaven, mind you, but Castiel was willing to make do.

"Good. I told Dad we should totally visit here, but he says it doesn't really exist. At least where we live it doesn't."

"This island," said Castiel gravely, "laughs in the face of universes and their laws." He tilted his head. "You may well fit in, here."

"I did last time. There were lots of kids here."

"Do you have any idea why you all might be here?"

"Not yet. Last time it was to help John William," Cas explained. "He was all hurting because Dad had gone to Hell and he didn't know he was going to come back. I told him that you always rescue him and that made him feel better."

Castiel couldn't help but preen just a little at the idea that he always rescued Dean. He might not always know what he was doing in other circles, but in that, he was pan-dimensional success, apparently. "I do," he said. "Who is John William?"

"He's Dad's son with Dawn Summers in another reality," Cas said. "Dad has kids in a LOT of realities."

"I don't believe I've met Dawn Summers. Do . . . I have other children in other realities?"

"I haven't met any," Cas said. "And you weren't here last time so no one here knew you."

"Last time must have been some time ago, then. I have been here for several months."

"Dad was still here," Cas said. "In school."

"He graduated last year. As Sam and Chuck will, this year."

"And you're.... living in the church with a cat?"

"She adopted me." Castiel frowned. "As did the church. On my first visit, the former leader handed over control to me and left. I didn't request it."

Cas cocked his head in what would be a very familiar gesture if Castiel spent time looking in a mirror. "Do you want to be here?"

That was a very interesting question. "It is where I am."

"Yes, it is."

"Not to my question." Cas paused and said, "Dad usually tries to distract me with candy or toys when he doesn't want to answer."
